Tap, Tap, Tap

Originally posted on August 8, 2014

When my mother-in-law was in an adult assisted living home there was another patient there who created beautiful pieces of art with a typewriter. He would use so many different key strokes to make grass, trees, people, animals, and the list goes on. What a talent the gentleman had.

Today’s card is made using from the Tap, Tap, Tap stamp set from Stampin’ Up! Each stamp in the set compliments each other and they all come together to make a fun card. The Dictionary background stamp adds a nice touch to this card.

Directions to make the card:

Card stock sizes you will need:
  • 5 ½ x 8 ½” piece of Basic Gray card stock folded in half for card base
  • Two 5 ¼ x 4” pieces of Whisper White card stock – one is for the inside
  • 2 ¾ x 3” piece of Whisper White card stock
  • 2 x 2 ½” piece of Whisper White card stock
  • 1 x 5 ¼” piece of Whisper White card stock
  • 1 ¼ x 5 ¼” piece of Eggplant Envy card stock
  • 3 x 1” piece of Eggplant Envy card stock
  1. Using the Dictionary background stamp, ink the stamp with Smokey Gray and stamp the 5 ¼ x 4” piece of Whisper White card stock using the second generation technique.
  2. Stamp the typewriter image inked with Eggplant Envy ink onto the 2 ¾ x 3” piece of Whisper White card stock.
  3. Stamp “hi” using Eggplant Envy ink where you see the paper of the typewriter image.
  4. Stamp the 2 x 2 ½” and the 1 x 5 ¼” Whisper White pieces with the tap, tap, tap stamp using Eggplant Envy ink. Again, use the second generation technique.
  5. Punch the 3 x 1” Eggplant Envy card stock with the Spiral Border Punch.
  6. Tear a portion of the paper off the lower edge of the 5 ¼ X 4” stamped piece. Be careful not to tear too much – you will be placing the edges of 2 x 2 ½” piece stamped with the tap, tap, tap stamp just under this piece when you assemble the card. (I laid the 2 x 2 ½” piece over the 5 ¼ x 4” piece prior to tearing so I could estimate where to tear.)
  7. Sponge all pieces as desired.
  8. Color the typewriter.
  9. Adhere the 5 ¼ x 4” torn piece and the 2 x 2 ½” piece together with the edges of 2 x 2 ½” piece behind the larger piece. You want to make sure that when these two pieces are glued together the edges are straight and the same distance from the card base edges.
  10. Now glue this joined piece onto the card base
  11. Layer and glue the 1 x 5 ¼” Whisper White stamped piece onto the Eggplant Envy 1 ¼ x 5 ¼” card stock.
  12. Adhere the layered Eggplant Envy 5 ¼ x 1 ¼” piece as the next layer on the card.
  13. Adhere the punched piece of Eggplant Envy to the 2 ¾ x 3” piece of Whisper White stamped with the typewriter image.
  14. Adhere the 2 ¾ x 3 piece (that has the punched piece attached) on next.
  15. Stamp the inside piece to add interest and adhere– and you are done!
