Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop - The September Mix Up

Welcome to The September Mix Up Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop.  As you make your rounds through the blog tour you will see fabulous projects from the Holiday and Annual Stampin' Up! catalogs.

Before I share my projects with you, I want to remind you this is a circular Blog Hop.  That means that wherever you begin, if you continue to go to the “next” blog on the list, you will eventually wind up right where you first started.  You will find the “next” button (and the “previous” button - if you want to go backwards) at the end of this post.  The “home” button will give you a listing of all participating blogs.

If you have been moving forward through the hop you would have arrived here after oohing and aahing over Heidi Weaver's projects.  I always love seeing what she has to share.

I know you’ll enjoy seeing all the other blogs too.  Happy hopping!

Serene Silhouettes

I was outside earlier listening to the birds.  I find it interesting that this time of year the bird sounds are more of a chirp.  It is as they are talking about life!  During the spring the sounds are a happy song with many melodies blending and rising all around me in an expectation of new life.  I do love listening to the birds anytime of the year - it is so relaxing.

For this first card I used the bird stamp from the Serene Silhouettes stamp set which is found in the Annual Catalog.  Can't you image the birds talking?

The Basic Gray piece of card stock is dry embossed using the Woodland Textured Impressions EF which is from the Holiday Catalog.

I stamped the tree from Sheltering Tree set on the Calypso Coral.  This set is also in the Annual Catalog.

Happy Scenes

Let's shake things up a bit!  To create this shaker card I used a set from the Holiday Catalog, Happy Scenes.  The opening is cut using the large leaf die from the Leaflets Framelits Dies.

I embossed the image with Black Embossing Powder prior to water coloring the sky and ground.  When I was done water coloring I colored in the pumpkins and leaves with markers.

My biggest challenge with this card was the beads, they kept sticking to the acetate sheet - static clean!!

Wonderland

Wonderland is a fabulous set found in the Holiday Catalog.  The trees stamp alone make a beautiful card or can be used with so many other stamps.  I posted a "Walk Down Memory Lane" card earlier this week using a retired set and the Wonderland set.  You can check it out here, it is the second card of the post.

I wish I could have capture the elegance of this card with my camera.

I first embossed the trees with White Embossing Powder, stamped again (offsetting a bit) with VersaMark, and then embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.  I used a Silver Foil Sheet for the layer behind the stamped image.

Thank you for stopping by My Tanglewood Cottage.  I hope you were inspired!

    1. Thanks Jackie. The idea came to me when I was actually thinking about stamping the image on the leaf!

  3. Sooo inspiring, Marie! The leaf shape for the shaker frame is brilliant, but your Wonderland trees are breathtaking! These have to be the prettiest trees I've ever seen stamped! Thanks so much for the ideas!

    1. Deb, thanks for your comments. The seed beads made a great shaker card, but they sure do like to cling to the window sheet! I decided they were just leaves floating through the air! ;-)

  7. Just as I read your 'chirp' comment I heard a bird chirp outside. How observant of you to notice the changes in the chirps. I believe you are right. I will be listening for more single chirp sounds. Fabulous projects. Love how you combined Sheltering and Silhouette stamps. The offset silver with Wonderland is terrific and a shaker card with the leaflet framelit -- wow!

    1. I have always loved listening to the birds for some reason. During the spring I love to sit on the deck and just listen to them, it is so peaceful. Thank you for your comments and stopping by!

  9. Hi Marie, thanks so much for continuing to be part of our terrific blog hop. Your use of colour in that first card is stunning. Love the rich warmth and also all those layers of detail. The shaker card, with those fall-coloured beads inside, is fabulous, especially using the Maple Leaf cut-out for the shaker window. It's funny, before I read the details, I was sitting, wondering how you managed such a great 3-D effect with those trees and then I read that you had heat-embossed twice. What a brilliant idea! I've never tried that but with the promise of such wonderful results, I am definitely going to be attempting this as well.

    1. Everyone who participates in this hop is so talented and to be included with you all is truly an honor. I wasn't sure how the double heat-embossing would turn out and was happy it worked. (As soon as I saw the powder had melted each time I turned off the heat gun.) Thanks for your kind comments!

  10. Marie I love all your tree themed cards. The Wonderland card is so inspiring. I've just purchased that set, but haven't opened it yet, so now I'm extra excited. Our neighbor has a huge tree in her backyard that our patio faces. It's almost a ritual in the summer to have a cocktail on the deck and watch the birds coming home to roost for the night. They come in droves at dusk and settle in for the night. Their chit chat is loud and raucous at first but almost like someone turning off a switch it goes silent. I love both your serene silhouettes and Happy Scenes cards. The leaf idea for your shaker card is pure genius. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Penny, we have a pond on our property and had black winged blackbirds settle in there last year. They have such a beautiful song. During the fall they would also swoop in all at once at dusk, make a LOT of noise and then suddenly go quiet. I wonder if they have a conductor orchestrating?!?! Thanks for your comments!
